Effective January 1st, 2025, the California Dental Board, under SB 1453 Section 1750, mandates that all unlicensed dental assistants, including sterilization assistants, must complete a Board-approved 8-hour infection control course before they can perform any basic supportive dental procedures that involve exposure to blood, saliva, or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). This requirement is part of the essential dental assisting training to ensure safety in dental practices.

This 8 hour infection control course includes

4 hours of in-person didactic instruction in all aspects of infection control within a dental healthcare setting, which is essential for fulfilling the requirements set by the California Dental Board. The training covers critical topics such as:

· Disinfection

· Universal and Standard Precautions

· Operatory Set-up and Clean-up

· Sterilization

· Hazardous Waste Protocol

· Dental Waterline Maintenance.

This comprehensive dental assisting training ensures that you are well-prepared to maintain a safe and compliant dental environment.

This course includes 4 hours of laboratory, preclinical, and clinical training and assessment. Upon passing the knowledge assessments and completion exam, a certificate of completion will be issued. This course meets the requirements set by the California Dental Board and is an essential part of your dental assisting training.

Preparing for Course: PPE Requirements

This comprehensive course, which meets the requirements set by the California Dental Board course, is all inclusive. Students are required to attend in-person training with the following items:

Scrubs
Lab coat or gown
Clinic-approved footwear (no open toes)
Protective eyewear (goggles or face shield)
Hair pulled back.

We will provide masks and gloves to ensure safety during the 8 hour infection control training
